At Wick Primary, PSHE is taught weekly as part of the class timetable. Children are taught using the Jigsaw scheme of learning which covers a range of areas of a child's PSHE development. In lessons, children are encouraged to think deeply about issues, with the support of a range of resources. We encourage through our oracy approach, debate around topics and the sharing of ideas. Children record evidence of their thinking in floors books which can be used as part of an assessment process.

Assessment in PSHE is both formative and summative. The two clear learning objectives for each lesson (piece) allow the teacher to be mindful of the assessment elements within that session that can formatively help them pitch and plan subsequent lessons, and activities are included in each lesson to give the children the opportunity to self-assess using simple pictorial resources designed in a child-friendly, age appropriate manner. It also allows children of 6 and over the opportunity to identify areas for self-improvement.

Children take part in the creation of a class floorbook which is a visual representation of their learning. Children use this to support discussions around their learning, and it provides a key chronology of their PSHE learning for this academic year.
